The Hole Shebang: Garden for Chase Manhattan Bank Plaza, New York by Isamu Noguchi-
Isamu Noguchi was a consultant for the Chase Manhattan Plaza project and designed this garden in 1961. He suggested a water garden for the plaza and the garden above was built built by architectural firm Skidmore Owings and Merrill. The garden floods in the summer creating a reflection pool that the rocks seem to float on. The garden is dry in the winter but the way the paving has been laid is suggestive of waves. The garden is Noguchi’s modern take on a traditional japanese garden.
